Jesse: Hey, what鈥檚 going on聽Richard? It鈥檚 Friday.

Richard: It鈥檚 the聽day again. I鈥檓 ready. Exciting day, as聽always.

Jesse: Podcast Friday and聽today we聽get to聽talk with an聽old friend and聽hopefully a聽new friend. It鈥檚 actually great to聽see people that we鈥檝e known f辞谤听many years as聽they鈥檝e built their stores and聽their journey and聽even move on聽to聽new things.

Richard: So, yeah, and聽this guy鈥檚 one of聽the聽OG, I聽mean, we鈥檒l say one of聽their names is聽Robby Stanley and聽he鈥檚 with Henson Wu聽and聽they鈥檙e from FeedbackWhiz. And Robby we鈥檝e known f辞谤听a聽long time. And when I聽say OG, I聽mean do聽you remember that he聽started selling PalmPilot parts.

Jesse: What鈥檚 a聽PalmPilot?

Richard: Exactly. This guy鈥檚 been around this f辞谤听a聽long time鈥

Jesse: I聽did have one.

Richard: And he聽stuck with it. Right, so聽now he鈥檚 just bad of聽knowledge. This is聽going to聽be聽a聽good one if聽anything we鈥檙e going to聽have to聽pair him back to聽make sure we聽don鈥檛 go聽over our heads and聽everybody else鈥檚 head.

Jesse: Awesome. Alright, guys let鈥檚 bring him on. We聽got Henson Wu聽and聽Robby Stanley. How鈥檚 it聽going, guys?

Henson: How you guys doing? Thanks f辞谤听having us. Yeah.

Jesse: Awesome. So聽you guys are with FeedbackWhiz. Actually, Henson why don鈥檛 you tell the聽audience a聽little bit about why you started FeedbackWhiz?

Henson: So聽FeedbackWhiz is聽a聽software f辞谤听Amazon sellers and聽it鈥檚 basically an聽email automation tool to聽help sellers get more product reviews and聽manage your product reviews. How I聽started this business was that I聽used to聽sell on聽eBay and聽Amazon and聽I聽did that f辞谤听you know 10-12聽years and聽mostly eBay in聽the聽beginning. About five 辞谤听six years ago I聽started selling on聽Amazon through a聽private label. My聽family has a聽clothing manufacturer wholesale and聽we聽decided to聽trial Amazon to聽launch private labels and聽that鈥檚 kind of聽how we聽started. How I聽started learning how to聽sell on聽Amazon and聽during that time there鈥檚 a聽lot of聽challenges, managing products, trying to聽get more reviews. How do聽you get products at聽the聽top, just so聽many things you have to聽do聽when you sell on聽Amazon and聽sometimes you just have to聽use some software to聽help you save your time. At聽that time actually I聽was working full time at聽a聽store f辞谤听a聽hardware company so聽my聽background is聽actually hardware engineering. And my聽good friend Eric who is聽our co-founder and聽CTO here, he鈥檚 a聽software engineer and聽we聽partnered up聽together and聽started developing some software f辞谤听it聽specifically. And through there we聽saw that we聽were able to聽build a聽pretty nice product and聽you know as聽we聽kept developing it, we聽saw that there鈥檚 a聽huge opportunity here. And after six-seven months we聽decided to聽quit our jobs and聽go聽full time with FeedbackWhiz, and聽we聽launched. It鈥檚 been about a聽little over a聽year. So聽we聽launched in聽Q4聽of聽last year and聽we鈥檝e done tremendously well. Our software has become extremely popular. We聽have eight-figure 辞谤听seven-figure companies, major corporations all using our software right now to聽help them boost their brand on聽Amazon. So聽yeah that鈥檚 kind of聽about background.

Jesse: Awesome. Your coming up聽on聽the聽one year anniversary 辞谤听maybe just had that, great entrepreneurial story. So聽I鈥檓 hoping you can help everybody that鈥檚 listening with their own entrepreneurial journey here. You guys are in聽Amazon all day, not all of聽our merchants are on聽Amazon always, right, so聽maybe we聽can help people out with what are the聽steps one, two, three, four would with getting going on聽Amazon?

Richard: And maybe even just a聽little bit before: why would they want to聽get on聽Amazon? They have their own e-commerce store now and聽we聽always hear the聽other side of聽the聽coin. Hey, you鈥檙e on聽Amazon and聽they鈥檙e taking fees and聽there鈥檚 a聽lot of聽people buying stuff there. But you could see why you would want to聽have your own store but the聽exact opposite in聽this case. They have their own store. Why would they want to聽do聽Amazon and聽then and聽then we鈥檒l dive in聽a聽little bit deeper.

Rob: Hey, Rich, this is聽Rob. Hi聽Jesse. Thanks f辞谤听the聽introduction. Let me聽go聽back on聽this because coming from the聽e-commerce world I聽can probably give some people listening to聽a聽little different perspective. I聽ran a聽website that basically sold parts they said f辞谤听PalmPilots which eventually sold parts f辞谤听iPhones. I聽was strictly just e-commerce, just selling through my聽e-commerce, had a聽little bit of聽dabbling into the聽eBay rule quite a聽few years back. And then of聽course as聽things grew I聽was able to聽jump more into the聽eBay rolled and聽then into the聽Amazon rolled in. And what kind of聽led me聽there, I聽was getting great sales through own website, so聽I聽can definitely relate to聽people out there that are maybe doing great with their website and聽their products are doing just fine in聽their site. They鈥檙e gone. Well, heck why do聽I聽sell on聽eBay 辞谤听why do聽I聽sell on聽Amazon with all these fees and聽everything? You know you got it. You got to聽look at聽some of聽the聽backgrounds on聽why these companies are there and聽why people keep going to聽it. For instance, if聽I鈥檓 buying something 辞谤听even my聽wife the聽first place she goes is聽Amazon to聽look f辞谤听it. So聽there are some stats out there talking about how 60聽percent of聽the聽United States used to聽go聽to聽Google and聽did a聽Google search to聽look up聽a聽product. Now 60聽percent of聽the聽United States is聽going right to聽Amazon and聽typing in聽what they鈥檙e looking f辞谤听when it聽comes to聽e-commerce shopping. So聽to聽me聽seeing this a聽few years back 辞谤听even a聽little bit longer, I聽jumped on聽the聽eBay platform when people started kind of聽switching from looking on聽Google, looking on聽eBay. Now instead of聽looking on聽Google 辞谤听eBay now, they鈥檙e going straight to聽Amazon. So聽my聽thought was 聯OK, the聽percentage and聽the聽fees are there. I聽just got to聽figure out how can I聽factor those in聰. Can I聽maybe increase my聽price a聽little bit 辞谤听become a聽good seller on聽there that will increase my聽sales which will offset the聽fees if聽I聽move in聽enough product. So聽that was part of聽the聽reason I聽jumped on聽to聽Amazon, because you need that kind of聽other platforms where people are going because you can spend a聽ton of聽money on聽the聽Internet with Google AdWords and聽things like that to聽drive people to聽your e-commerce site. But you got to聽also look at聽where are the聽people going to聽buy. Prior to聽Amazon people were going to聽eBay and聽I鈥檓 not saying they still aren鈥檛 but the聽majority of聽people now are going to聽Amazon. So聽there鈥檚 a聽couple of聽ways to聽offset some of聽that fee is聽increasing yourselves obviously that allow you to聽go聽buy more product, usually to聽allow you to聽decrease your cost on聽stuff you鈥檙e bringing it聽in, and聽then you can price point it聽right over on聽Amazon that you can still make pretty decent margins. Yeah, you might give up聽a聽little bit but you get that volume that鈥檒l make it聽up.

Jesse: Yeah. But basically, you鈥檙e saying that鈥檚 where people are going. So聽you better be聽there.

Rob: Absolutely.

Richard: Yeah, I聽would imagine. I聽won鈥檛 go聽too deep on聽this, but I聽would imagine having a聽brand that not everybody else is聽selling would be聽one of聽the聽ways that you could make that margin back up聽to. You鈥檙e not selling the聽same thing as聽anybody else and聽driving the聽price down. Trying to聽be聽the聽lowest price to聽make sales but you actually have some sort of聽brand, a聽lot of聽these guys might not actually have that yet. But we聽have a聽few people have made their own products and聽done their own thing. So聽interesting.

Jesse: Actually, Robby there was one point you made there that I聽was curious about because you mentioned you might sell your products higher on聽Amazon than you do聽on聽your own e-commerce site. Is聽that what you currently do?

Rob: I聽actually sold my聽business just recently. My聽e-commerce business is聽sold. So聽I聽actually stepped out of聽that role and聽into the聽marketing world, FeedbackWhiz. But prior to聽that when I聽did currently have it, there were times we聽would after up聽that a聽little bit on聽eBay, our price are up聽a聽little bit on聽Amazon to聽help offset some of聽those fees. Realistically wise, we聽were making better margins on聽our website, direct sales. Versus Amazon, eBay which everybody has probably seen that. But you got to聽really factor in聽when you鈥檙e getting those direct sales what is聽your overhead. I聽mean if聽you鈥檙e paying f辞谤听Google AdWords 辞谤听let鈥檚 say you鈥檙e doing YouTube video marketing, you got to聽factor in聽their fees related to聽that. So聽really you might look at聽it聽and聽go聽聯Oh, wow, I聽make a聽lot more when I聽sell something through my聽website.聰 But you鈥檝e got to聽look at聽the聽other aspects of聽what it聽cost to聽get that person there. Like did you do聽a聽video, did you turn around and聽do聽a聽marketing on聽Facebook 辞谤听something and聽you paid money. That factors into pushing those people directly to聽your website which actually means your margins weren鈥檛 as聽big as聽you thought. So聽whereas on聽over on聽Amazon you can sell thing there where you have a聽kind of聽a聽flat. Now I聽want a聽flat fee but you know what the聽fees are going to聽be.

Jesse: Sure. Sure. Yeah. I聽was glad you mentioned that because there are costs on聽both sides. I聽personally sell some stuff on聽Amazon and聽I聽sell it聽at聽a聽higher price on聽Amazon than I聽do聽on聽my聽own site. And I聽was wondering if聽I聽am聽I聽the聽only one, does Amazon know that I鈥檓 doing that? Or聽do聽they even care? So聽I鈥檓 glad to聽hear other people are doing that. It聽wasn鈥檛 just me.

Henson: I聽want to聽jump in聽real quick and聽comment on聽Robby, what he聽said. So聽the聽biggest advantage of聽selling Amazon really is聽you鈥檙e going to聽get that traffic versus your website. You just can do聽a聽quick comparison, if聽you can get your product to聽the聽first page on聽Amazon with the聽right keywords, you鈥檙e going to聽be聽instantly be聽making millions of聽dollars because everyone is聽going to聽be聽buying your product, because Amazon the聽game is聽really 聯can you get your product to聽page one?聰 like the聽first three searches and聽can you get a聽four-star 辞谤听better review rating. If聽you get that, it鈥檚 pretty much like as聽a聽buyer, everyone鈥檚 is聽going to聽automatically just buy the聽product without even looking at聽the聽price 辞谤听doing much research because the聽trust is聽there versus you selling on聽your website. People have to聽come here and聽look at聽your website, they don鈥檛 know your name. There is聽a聽little bit of聽uncertainty. Trust and聽certainty, that鈥檚 the聽big advantage of聽why you want to聽get your products on聽Amazon.

Rob: Everybody trusts Amazon.

Jesse: Yeah, f辞谤听sure. You know you can return it. You know that you鈥檙e not going to聽get ripped off. I聽get it. Yeah, maybe you don鈥檛 make quite as聽much money but once you get to聽that first page, the聽money just rolls in聽magically of聽course. You just sit back and聽all my聽ties.

Rob: Let me聽know when that happens.

Richard: If聽it聽was only that easy.

Jesse: Yeah, it聽never quite is. Guys, we鈥檒l hold how do聽we聽get to聽first page 1.聽How do聽we聽just get on聽Amazon? What are the聽basics f辞谤听a聽new merchant? Maybe 黑料门 merchants that might have products, already selling some stuff. How do聽they get on聽Amazon? What鈥檚 the聽process?

Henson: It聽really depends on聽what kind of聽product you sell because Amazon is聽actually pretty strict with a聽lot of聽products that are being sold. It聽depends on聽what you are selling, clothes, if聽you鈥檙e selling baby products, if聽you鈥檙e selling let鈥檚 say camping gear 辞谤听there are different types of聽products that you can sell on聽Amazon and聽they all have different categories and聽different rules. So聽the聽first thing you want to聽do聽is聽you want to聽do聽some research on聽the聽product that you want to聽sell and聽make sure that it鈥檚 something that Amazon lets you do聽it. And if聽there鈥檚 no, f辞谤听example, if聽you鈥檙e trying to聽sell knives 辞谤听something like that, that鈥檚 considered a聽hazardous 辞谤听hazmat category. Right. Those kinds of聽things become just more difficult to聽sell. You might want to聽try to聽sell something more towards maybe baby products. But even with baby products, there are restrictions on聽the聽product itself, is聽the聽material hazardous. There鈥檙e toys 辞谤听battery restrictions. If聽you鈥檙e selling clothes they might say: 聯Hey, you need to聽have a聽website.聰 Really the聽beginning to聽get an聽Amazon is聽to聽do聽the聽research first, and聽then make sure that the聽product you鈥檙e selling is聽a聽quality product. Because once you get your product to聽the聽top one first page, there鈥檚 a聽lot of聽different strategies to聽get it聽to聽the聽top. The idea is聽you want to聽be聽able to聽build that organic traffic, meaning that the聽real customers that come and聽buy a聽product later on聽they want to聽be聽satisfied with the聽products. If聽you鈥檙e selling some cheap knockoff from China 辞谤听something that might break after a聽couple months, those kind of聽products are not going to聽gain and聽you鈥檙e going to聽end up聽making some money in聽the聽beginning but in聽the聽long run, you鈥檒l probably lose. So聽make sure that the聽product you鈥檙e trying to聽get there is聽something really good and聽do聽a聽lot of聽research. Best advice really is聽you don鈥檛 need to聽have a聽brand 辞谤听start off with the聽brand right away. You can just go聽to聽like Walmart 辞谤听Target and聽just buy any聽product that you think might sell well on聽Amazon and聽then you can just post it聽on聽Amazon. You can go聽through the聽system set up聽your account. They have this thing called FBA fulfilled by聽Amazon which is聽where Amazon takes care of聽your products, you ship it聽to聽Amazon. Amazon does all the聽customer service. They do聽all the聽shipping f辞谤听you. Their platform is聽pretty complicated, not complicated but there鈥檚 a聽lot of聽different things going on. You really need to聽get familiar with how the聽whole process works. And once you get the聽idea of聽how they sell on聽Amazon then you can start looking into 聯Hey, I聽have a聽private label brand and聽I聽don鈥檛 want to聽launch.聰 Then you start doing other things like getting good pictures, good descriptions, just doing all the聽different tricks to聽pretty much help your product up. And one of聽the聽best things I聽usually like to聽do聽if聽I鈥檓 selling something, I聽like to聽buy my聽competitor鈥檚 product. So聽I鈥檒l buy their product and聽get it聽in聽the聽mail, check it聽out, see what the聽product looks like, what kind of聽packaging they鈥檙e using. Look at聽what kind of聽email sequence they鈥檙e using to聽get reviews. Titles, description, pictures. You can basically look at聽some of聽the聽top Amazon. And then just build your brand based on聽how they鈥檙e doing it. That鈥檚 probably the聽best way f辞谤听someone new to聽get started.

Rob: Yeah, f辞谤听sure.

Jesse: I聽think that鈥檚 good advice f辞谤听a聽lot of聽people. They鈥檙e thinking: 聯All right. I聽was able to聽sell some stuff online. I鈥檒l just put this over to聽Amazon, it鈥檒l be聽a聽piece of聽cake.聰 And I聽think I聽had some trouble going on聽Amazon the聽first time and聽it聽turns out it鈥檚 a聽little bit harder than just setting up聽a聽store in聽my聽opinion. There鈥檚 a聽lot of聽things to聽follow. You do聽need a聽UPC as聽well. That helped me聽up聽a聽little bit.

Rob: Let me聽let me聽jump in聽on聽that. So聽couple of聽things to聽just a聽back up聽slightly on聽that, I聽would recommend that they find one product that they have some pretty decent margin on, go聽in聽there and聽get the聽store set up聽and聽go聽through the聽process of聽getting a聽right title and聽description and聽just start with one product and聽see how it聽does. Don鈥檛 take your entire catalog and聽throw it聽on聽there. Maybe start with you know half a聽dozen 辞谤听something. Just a聽couple to聽get going, so聽you get the聽process, understand it聽and聽yeah, you have to聽add UPC codes. If聽people aren鈥檛 familiar with UPC codes, google it. There are many ways to聽get UPC codes but you have to聽have UPC codes. If聽people don鈥檛 know what a聽UPC code is聽again please google it. It鈥檒l give you a聽full description on聽what a聽UPC code is, you鈥檙e gonna need it. It聽basically identifies your product as聽being yours and聽will allow Amazon to聽basically say that this is聽your product. So聽you鈥檙e definitely going to聽need that.

Jesse: I聽mean that helped me聽up. A聽lot of聽people don鈥檛 necessarily have UPC if聽you have a聽few major on聽a聽product in聽your garage and聽you know there鈥檚 a聽little trick there. I聽don鈥檛 know if聽I鈥檓 allowed to聽say this legally here but you can buy UPCs on聽eBay.

Rob: You said it, not me.

Jesse: A聽birdie told me聽that you could do聽that but you will not find that on聽Amazon鈥檚 website that you should do聽that. So聽hint-hint.

Rob: Just a聽touch on聽what Henson said. Something slightly different if聽people are selling on聽eBay right now and聽haven鈥檛 started selling on聽Amazon. If聽they are slightly different, so聽don鈥檛 think that if聽you take your information on聽eBay 辞谤听even on聽your store f辞谤听your title description it鈥檚 not going to聽always instead translate over to聽the聽Amazon platform. So聽I鈥檇 also be聽careful. We鈥檙e starting to聽see a聽lot of聽this happening on聽eBay, f辞谤听instance, a聽lot of聽the聽quality, the聽quality seems to聽be聽going down and聽I聽think that鈥檚 causing some problems whereas on聽Amazon the聽quality gets weeded out so聽to聽speak. People selling lower quality items on聽Amazon start getting weeded out pretty quickly. Just think about it聽from a聽buyer point of聽view. If聽you go聽to聽Amazon 辞谤听even eBay you 辞谤听even somebody鈥檚 website, there are people now that have their own reviews 辞谤听customer feedback about the聽product on聽their own website. You鈥檙e there to聽read about how good is聽this product. What am聽I聽going to聽get f辞谤听my聽money? And you鈥檙e going to聽do聽that same thing on聽Amazon. You鈥檙e going to聽go聽in聽there, they鈥檙e going to聽say: 聯I聽want to聽see this particular item, I聽want to聽see ones that all have three stars 辞谤听higher聰. And then you鈥檙e going to聽read the聽product reviews and聽see what issues people had. Now if聽the聽product鈥檚 not good quality, it鈥檚 going to聽show up聽really quickly and聽the聽star ratings going to聽be聽really low. So聽the聽advice I鈥檇 give is聽to聽make sure you have a聽good quality product, go聽in聽there, just do聽a聽few products as聽a聽trial run. Make sure got good titles and聽description and聽good photos and聽just give it聽a聽test run before you ramp up聽there. And then the聽other part is聽to聽make sure that you are communicating with your customers. That鈥檚 also another big key that people need to聽do聽on聽Amazon just like you do聽on聽your website. If聽somebody has a聽question and聽they email, you want to聽be聽responding to聽that.

Jesse: Of聽course you want to聽communicate with your customers, but when you sell on聽Amazon you don鈥檛 get the聽email. How do聽you go聽about communicating with them?

Henson: With Amazon they鈥檙e pretty strict with this entire marketing communication. They keep updating their seller terms of聽service, so聽you can鈥檛 really market through email. The e-mails are mass, so聽everyone gets a聽mass @Amazon.com. the聽only thing you can really do聽to聽is聽to聽ask them f辞谤听product reviews 辞谤听feedback. And if聽they have a聽product issue 辞谤听some customer service issue, you can communicate with them about that but you can鈥檛 like exchange email addresses 辞谤听put phone numbers 辞谤听you can鈥檛 even link them to聽your own website outside Amazon because Amazon really wants to聽protect their own buyer database. These are the聽unfortunate things when you sell on聽Amazon as聽you just don鈥檛 have as聽much flexibility to聽market to聽these customers as聽if聽you would if聽you had your own website. Jesse, here鈥檚 a聽tip though.

Jesse: Yeah. I聽want the聽trick. I聽know there鈥檚 no聽email, I聽want to聽hack, how do聽we鈥

Henson: What you want to聽do聽is聽when you set up聽your Amazon account, make sure it聽matches your brand name. And hopefully, your brand name matches your website 辞谤听e-commerce site. So聽keep it聽consistent. I聽don鈥檛 know if聽Jesse let me聽say this but before I聽sold my聽company DirectFix, we聽made sure we聽had the聽Twitter account with DirectFix. We聽had the聽YouTube account. Everywhere I聽created an聽account matched so聽that way if聽somebody on聽Amazon turns around and聽they look at聽your username which they will see. Or聽even when you go聽and聽put in聽your title as聽long as聽you have a聽trademark on聽your name, you can put your trademark name in聽the聽title and聽that actually helps quite a聽bit because now it聽protects your product. But people can look that up聽on聽the聽Internet. If聽you go聽and聽look up聽DirectFix probably first thing it鈥檚 going to聽come up聽is聽going to聽be聽my聽old website that I聽sold and聽all everything that branded around it. So聽there it聽is聽a聽little trick there. Now you can鈥檛 tell them to聽go聽contact you through there but if聽they look it聽up聽that鈥檚 that鈥檚 their own. They鈥檙e allowed to聽do聽that. They鈥檙e allowed to聽go聽search your name. So聽maybe that鈥檚 a聽little tip there is聽use your brand name 辞谤听your company brand name and聽keep it聽consistent.

Richard: Yeah, makes sense. And what about you have their address, and聽good old-fashioned 聯Thank you聰 card 辞谤听something. Do聽they say you can鈥檛 direct them back to聽your website 辞谤听you could still do聽your little hack? It鈥檚 got the聽same name you just saying 聯Thank you聰 and聽they might want to聽look you up. Have you ever done anything with that?

Henson: Usually sellers don鈥檛. What sellers usually do聽is聽they鈥檒l have a聽product insert. When they do聽fulfill by聽Amazon deal, they make like a聽little card and聽they鈥檒l package it聽inside their product. That鈥檚 where you could put a聽thank you note and聽then you could put there let鈥檚 say your company logo. But then sometimes what it聽is聽if聽you鈥檙e offering some kind of聽manufacturer warranty, then there might be聽a聽reason f辞谤听them to聽actually go聽to聽your website because they need to聽get that warranty. You can put that kind of聽material inside your product insert. You just can鈥檛 write in聽anything like 聯Please, leave us聽a聽positive feedback聰 辞谤听聯Please, leave us聽a聽positive review聰 辞谤听聯Go to聽our website聰. You can definitely put that stuff in聽there because it鈥檚 part of聽your product, part of聽your brand. Those are usually what sellers do. Now in聽terms of聽sending a聽little postcard afterward, I聽don鈥檛 know how effective that is. I聽think most sellers usually don鈥檛 do聽that. They usually just send emails, e-mails are usually more effective than snail mail.

Richard: Yeah, I聽was just more thinking since you have that address but you don鈥檛 have their email address right. Just more of聽a聽question. And I鈥檓 sure to聽some people probably take advantage if聽it鈥檚 a聽product that has certain feature sets that鈥檚 maybe more complicated than some others directing them to聽聯Here鈥檚 a聽video on聽how to聽use it聰 辞谤听聯Here鈥檚 how to聽set it聽up聰 辞谤听something might be聽kind of聽useful too.

Henson: Absolutely. So聽a聽lot of聽sellers what they do聽is聽as聽soon as聽the聽order ships out, they鈥檒l have an聽automated message send out to聽the聽buyer and聽what you鈥檒l have in聽there is聽a聽link to聽let鈥檚 say product tips, could be聽a聽PDF file. It聽could be聽a聽link on聽how to聽use the聽product 辞谤听video link and聽then usually they鈥檒l put like a聽little contact. Let鈥檚 say it聽says 聯When you receive your product if聽something鈥檚 wrong please contact us.聰 Right. And that way what you鈥檙e basically doing is聽you鈥檙e trying to聽prevent them from leaving you a聽negative review 辞谤听negative feedback. Just kind of聽being proactive and聽letting them know that 聯the company鈥檚 here if聽you have any聽problems let us聽know right away.聰

Jesse: Now Henson you mentioned send them a聽message. Let me聽dig into that a聽little bit more. So聽we聽don鈥檛 have their email but you can send them messages. How does that work? There鈥檚 this is聽through the聽Amazon back end?

Henson: Inside Amazon seller Central there鈥檚 a聽messaging platform and聽this is聽kind of聽like where you send emails and聽messages, 辞谤听e-mails and聽messages are saying 聯This is聽where you can communicate with your customer.聰 But all the聽communication that you do聽is聽being tracked and聽logged by聽Amazon. Let鈥檚 say you鈥檙e using a聽third party software like FeedbackWhiz to聽send out emails. That email has to聽go聽through Amazon first and聽then it聽reaches the聽buyer. So聽if聽you try to聽play anything like funny in聽there 辞谤听try to聽like market to聽them, Amazon does have a聽record. And if聽they wanted to聽come down and聽investigate you 辞谤听shut you down, they can see everything. Their communication platform is聽just tied to聽their system and聽there is聽no聽way around it. You have to聽talk through their platform and聽then you can鈥檛 see the聽real email address of聽the聽buyer. And the聽buyer can鈥檛 see the聽seller鈥檚 email address either.

Jesse: Yeah. No, I聽think that鈥檚 important f辞谤听people that haven鈥檛 sold on聽Amazon to聽realize that yes, there is聽a聽messaging but Amazon owns. So聽you can鈥檛 put your you are all in聽there. You can鈥檛. You have to聽be聽careful because it聽is聽monitored by聽a聽robot probably. But it聽is聽monitored but it聽seems like maybe that鈥檚 the聽hack. How do聽you use that messaging platform to聽get what you need? It鈥檚 FeedbackWhiz here so聽I鈥檓 assuming there is聽a聽way to聽use that to聽try to聽encourage the聽behavior you want without breaking the聽rules.

Henson: Exactly, yeah. So聽the聽idea is聽really to聽draft 辞谤听craft a聽very personalized message to聽the聽buyer and聽your buyer is聽your audience. You have to聽think outside the聽box a聽little bit and聽who鈥檚 your audience. If聽you鈥檙e selling a聽baby product, your audience could be聽mothers 辞谤听women. Right. So聽your message might be聽more towards to聽them. Maybe you want to聽put a聽picture of聽a聽baby 辞谤听a聽child 辞谤听something. Something that grabbed their attention right away, because when they open the聽email you only have a聽few seconds to聽get their attention. And most sellers just send these blogs of聽globs of聽text. And people these days don鈥檛 have time. They don鈥檛 like reading it聽but if聽you break up聽your e-mail a聽little bit, maybe you put a聽little funny picture in聽there and聽put something personalized, something that captures your attention then they are more engaged to聽read your email. Then you know you can put links in聽there to聽ask them to聽leave you a聽product review and聽the聽whole game on聽Amazon is聽to聽get the聽most product reviews and聽the聽most positive property is聽right. You can set up聽an聽automated email sequence to聽send that out at聽a聽specific time. Let鈥檚 say you know five days after the聽products are delivered 辞谤听one day after it鈥檚 shipped, depending on聽the聽product, of聽course. If聽you鈥檙e selling a聽cell phone case, they could probably slap it聽on聽a聽review right away but let鈥檚 say you鈥檙e selling vitamin supplements. There鈥檚 no聽reason to聽ask them to聽leave a聽review after two days. You鈥檙e not going to聽know if聽it鈥檚 good 辞谤听not so聽you might want to聽wait 30聽days. If聽you鈥檙e selling thousands of聽thousands of聽orders 辞谤听different products, Amazon鈥檚 sellers鈥 central messaging system only allows you to聽manually send out emails. There is聽no聽way to聽say: 聯Hey, I聽want to聽send out all these emails f辞谤听these orders, I聽want to聽have different templates enough f辞谤听these products聰. And that鈥檚 where our company comes in聽to聽help you guys set those kinds of聽things up聽so聽you can maximize your communication with your buyers and聽get as聽much product views as聽possible.

Jesse: Got it. So聽that鈥檚 awesome. Now if聽you were selling one 辞谤听two products a聽week, you could manually type in聽these emails, cut and聽paste, and聽you could probably get some good feedback. But once you start getting to聽even twenty-five of聽those per week it鈥檚 going to聽be聽nearly impossible to聽handle. So聽I聽love the聽automation on聽that. Now, how about when people are鈥 let鈥檚 say it鈥檚 the聽cell phone case. You sell a聽cell phone case, you want to聽send them an聽email after a聽couple of聽days. What would that email say? How do聽you encourage them to聽get a聽review without begging and聽breaking the聽rules with Amazon?

Henson: You just have to聽be聽a聽little creative. Of聽course, you probably want to聽do聽the聽thank you in聽the聽beginning. You want to聽put in聽the聽picture of聽the聽cell phone case, so聽they know what they鈥檙e reviewing first of聽all. It鈥檚 very important. With the聽manual e-mails through Amazon you can only type text, you can鈥檛 put pictures, you can鈥檛 put links, you can鈥檛 do聽any聽type of聽formatting. But Amazon does allow the聽third parties to聽integrate with their systems. Now you can actually use like HTML 辞谤听e-mail. I鈥檓 sure everyone gets tons of聽marketing emails and聽their email box. Different pictures, different links. Based on聽what we鈥檝e seen, the聽best strategy really is聽to聽keep things short and聽simple, get to聽the聽point. Don鈥檛 try type too much text. People just don鈥檛 have time these days to聽read. So聽just get to聽the聽point, throw a聽couple of聽pictures in聽there. Our system can actually let you add gifs. I聽don鈥檛 know if聽you guys know a聽website like Giphy.com where you can type in聽keywords like thank you. And there鈥檚 a聽picture of聽like Dwight from The Office 辞谤听something you know something funny like that where you can use pictures as聽words rather than just typing the聽text. You can kind of聽break it聽down a聽little bit and聽just make it聽really personal. And then you can create nice looking buttons. So聽it聽can have 聯Leave a聽review聰. Could be聽red 辞谤听blue 辞谤听whatever color you want. That way it鈥檚 right in聽their face. They know what you want if聽they feel like 聯Hey, I鈥檓 willing to聽leave a聽review聰, they just click on聽it. It鈥檒l take them directly to聽the聽page. They can leave a聽review. Just make it聽as聽simple as聽possible f辞谤听the聽buyer too, because in聽the聽end really it鈥檚 their time. They have to聽spend the聽extra time to聽do聽you a聽favor. And if聽you鈥檙e not doing them a聽favor by聽making it聽easy f辞谤听them, they鈥檙e just going to聽move on.

Jesse: I聽assume you cannot say 聯Leave me聽a聽review and聽I鈥檒l send you five bucks聰, right?

Henson: Absolutely not. Yes. There are Amazon鈥檚 terms of聽service page which they update actually quite frequently these days. There鈥檚 a聽lot of聽rules, huge things you can鈥檛 say and聽one of聽the聽most important things is聽trying not to聽use the聽word positive inside your email temple, because they specifically say 聯Don鈥檛 ever write 聭Please, leave me聽a聽positive review聮, but you can say 聭Please, leave me聽a聽product review聮 that鈥檚 fine. Just don鈥檛 use 聭Please, leave me聽a聽positive review聮. The second you write that鈥

Jesse: Yeah, I聽guess there鈥檚 a聽robot that says: 聭All right, positive like this one, cancel, done.聮

Rob: Jesse, on聽our platform we聽have actually built templates that we聽are always adjusting depending on聽the聽terms of聽service with Amazon, meaning their rules. You could always use our standard ones, you can make them fancier, you can make them not. We聽have one seller that uses our platform and聽literally, in聽his email, it聽says: 聭Leave me聽a聽product review, click on聽the聽kitten聮 and聽he鈥檚 got a聽little picture of聽the聽kitten it聽says 聭I聽dare you.聮 You know how many times you get people a聽click on聽the聽kitten which is聽just a聽link to聽go聽leave a聽review on聽Amazon. Little things like that. When you were saying just a聽back up聽slightly, Jesse you were saying some people only maybe sell a聽couple items a聽day let鈥檚 say. Those are still customers that may want to聽take a聽look at聽our software. Any time you can automate something f辞谤听a聽small fee per month and聽not have to聽worry about it, it聽goes out. You can set up聽an聽email that says: 聭Hey, thanks f辞谤听buying my聽item聮 within a聽couple of聽days of聽them receiving it. We聽track that tracking on聽Amazon when the聽package was delivered and聽boom within 48聽hours if聽you haven鈥檛 sat this way it聽can kick another email asking f辞谤听a聽product review 辞谤听again like Hensen said depending on聽the聽product you鈥檙e selling. So聽could you do聽these things manually? Yeah, I聽bought an聽item on聽Amazon a聽week ago and聽I聽got it聽in聽a聽couple days later, I聽get this email from the聽from the聽seller basically saying 聭Hey, would you leave me聽a聽product review?聮 Didn鈥檛 even know what the聽product was. I聽bought like 7聽items that week. It聽had no聽title, had no聽picture. I聽don鈥檛 even know what I聽was leaving a聽review about 辞谤听who was contacting me. Just basic little things like that can make a聽difference of聽people clicking on聽辞谤听not. If聽it聽wasn鈥檛 f辞谤听the聽fact that I聽clicked on聽it聽and聽found out what the聽product was, I聽probably would have deleted that in聽my聽email box. So聽anything you can do聽to聽give it聽a聽little more spice and聽spice it聽up聽a聽little bit and聽make it聽fun too. The more fun you make it, the聽more chance you have somebody clicking and聽going 聭Oh, that was cute. You know I鈥檒l click on聽it.聮

Jesse: It聽makes perfect sense. The automation makes sense and聽also the聽ability to聽send each email. You mentioned the聽kitten. Yeah. it鈥檚 the聽internet. Cats always work.

Rob: You don鈥檛 need to聽know each HTML by聽the聽way. We聽do聽have a聽lot of聽drag-and-drop type stuff in聽our email system. If聽anybody out there is聽listening and聽they鈥檙e like: 聭Oh, we聽don鈥檛 know a聽thing about HTML聮 辞谤听聭I聽know very little.聮 That鈥檚 OK. We鈥檝e got drag-and-drop, you drag it聽in, the聽way it聽looks is聽the聽way it聽will send. In聽fact, there鈥檚 even a聽secondary window that will be聽on聽the聽right-hand side that will show you exactly what the聽emails going to聽look like before you send it聽辞谤听the聽template you create.

Jesse: The word I聽heard was a聽template. I聽like that. So聽you can write, change a聽couple of聽words. you name it.

Richard: So聽I聽have a聽question f辞谤听you guys. Earlier on聽we聽haven鈥檛 gone into how to聽move up聽the聽ranks yet but we聽talked about testing, getting a聽product on聽there, product 辞谤听two, testing it聽out, see what鈥檚 going on. But we鈥檝e also heard you guys mention sales velocity and聽at聽what point does that become a聽concern? If聽you test out the聽products in聽the聽beginning, does that mess with the聽sales velocity 辞谤听is聽that just once you know what you鈥檙e doing? You have certain techniques, you apply f辞谤听this velocities because these people already have an聽黑料门 store, and聽they鈥檙e now trying to聽decide 聭Should I聽go聽do聽this Amazon thing?聮 I聽like what Jesse is聽talking about, I聽like what Robby and聽Henson are talking about, sounds like there鈥檚 a聽big marketplace there of聽which we聽all know we鈥檝e all heard that name before. So聽two things. Does that mess with the聽sales velocity and聽does that matter if聽it聽does? Can you fix it聽later?

Henson: Yeah. One of聽the聽biggest challenge is聽how do聽you get your product to聽top. There is聽a聽thing that Amazon called the聽8-9聽algorithm which has different metrics where they look at聽to聽see how they determine what your product is聽ranked. So聽sales velocity is聽definitely one of聽the聽biggest things. The more volume you sell, the聽more the聽Amazon says 聭Hey, you know this product is聽legit, people are buying it. We聽should move it聽up.聮 It聽becomes more popular. Recently in聽the聽last few years there were a聽lot of聽different ways you could do聽it. A聽lot of聽hat black stuff, people are paying people outside different like India, different countries to聽buy the聽product with fake accounts just to聽artificially boost the聽product up. Some people use launch services, they鈥檒l give a聽heavy discount. And that way you鈥檙e basically giving away a聽product f辞谤听a聽cost 辞谤听even lower just to聽get the聽sales velocity up. Some people use friends and聽families members to聽buy their products. There鈥檚 a聽lot of聽different ways. It鈥檚 going to聽get a聽lot more challenging recently because Amazon has really cracked down especially on聽the聽black hat stuff there. Basically they can trap to聽see where the聽sales are coming from, who鈥檚 buying it, are they your friends, your family. And if聽they catch you doing that, they will shut you down. So聽it鈥檚 becoming more and聽more difficult to聽get the聽initial sales velocity. There鈥檚 a聽lot of聽difference. There鈥檚 other software out there that can help you. There鈥檚 software that can help you basically give out your product free. And that way you鈥檙e just giving it聽out, and聽you鈥檙e not asking f辞谤听reviews which is聽not against terms of聽service. There鈥檚 nothing wrong with giving your product f辞谤听free. The only problem is聽you need to聽have a聽pretty deep wallet.

Jesse: The problem is聽you gave away your product f辞谤听free. It鈥檚 the聽problem.

Richard: It鈥檚 interesting you bring in聽that.

Henson: It聽just takes a聽little bit of聽market research and聽that鈥檚 why the聽market research initially is聽very important because you guys see who your competitors are. Are you competing with someone with 10000聽reviews already? Are you even going to聽catch up聽to聽them? How much money is聽it聽going to聽cost you to聽get there? If聽you find a聽niche product where niche category has only one 辞谤听two competitors, then there鈥檚 a聽lot of聽tools out there that can tell you what鈥檚 the聽general, how many sales are they getting a聽week. Then you can crunch the聽numbers to聽see if聽it聽makes sense. Maybe different categories have to聽train sales losses. If聽you鈥檙e selling cell phone cases, you might need to聽sell tens of聽thousands to聽get to聽page one. But let鈥檚 say you鈥檙e selling a聽ceramic bowl 辞谤听something. Maybe you only need 100聽sales. So聽every category has a聽different algorithm to聽get at聽the聽top, you just need do聽some research to聽figure out what鈥檚 the聽right product to聽sell and聽how much money it聽is聽going to聽take to聽get there.

Rob: Hey Rich, to聽jump on聽that question that you asked. I聽was reading this article and聽it聽was talking about Amazon and聽obviously the聽products being sold on聽it. And one of聽the聽things that brought up聽and聽I聽found this really interesting was that let鈥檚 say you get your product on聽there and聽you have zero reviews. OK. No聽product reviews, nobody鈥檚 reviewed your product. You just got it聽going. If聽you can get even just 1,聽1聽product review, one person to聽go聽and聽write a聽positive four 辞谤听five-star product review, it聽will increase your sales by聽10聽percent over a聽person that has zero product reviews.

Richard: So聽one review. This is聽interesting, I聽apologize f辞谤听jumping in聽but this goes hand in聽hand with what you guys were just talking about a聽second ago when I聽first asked the聽question. So聽you mentioned the聽giving away one. If聽one skew gets this velocity, say you gave away something but you have a聽higher skew on聽the聽back end and聽you just hope that they like it聽enough, maybe it聽works with that other product 辞谤听something who knows that piece. But you almost treat this first product, the聽lower priced product, 辞谤听the聽free product as聽almost like a聽loss leader. Does that help the聽ranking of聽your whole store 辞谤听does that only help the聽ranking of聽that skew?

Rob: It鈥檚 actually just by聽that skew, each product is聽considered its own individual product so聽to聽speak. just because you sold 10000聽of聽one and聽you haven鈥檛 sold any聽of聽another, they鈥檙e not going to聽be聽like 聭Oh, he聽sold 10000聽of聽this one item so聽let鈥檚 move his other items up聽the聽list.聮 It聽is聽item by聽item specific. So聽you definitely need to聽be聽concentrating on聽each item that you鈥檙e selling on聽there and聽trying to聽get product reviews on聽every single item that you鈥檙e selling to聽increase those sales and聽increase that sales volume.

Jesse: That鈥檚 good to聽know.

Richard: I鈥檝e never searched by聽like I鈥檓 going to聽look f辞谤听a聽certain store. I鈥檝e always just looked f辞谤听a聽product in聽Amazon.

Rob: Actually, I聽think about two years ago Amazon has launched her own PPC. So聽now you can actually pay Amazon to聽get your product to聽the聽top. Let鈥檚 say it鈥檚 a聽brand new product you just launched. You got a聽couple of聽reviews. You know the聽first reviews are crucial. You need to聽get like say five to聽seven reviews just off the聽bat. when you launch a聽new product. Try to聽find someone that鈥檚 not related to聽you, maybe some distant friend鈥

Jesse: Maybe somebody that does a聽podcast with you. I鈥檓 not saying I鈥檝e ever done this before, Amazon if聽you listen.

Rob: It鈥檚 not that Amazon can鈥檛 connect with you. Get those five to聽seven reviews. And then you might want to聽start looking into maybe running a聽little bit of聽PPC where you鈥檒l pay three dollars 辞谤听two dollars a聽click. And then what happens is聽when someone searches the聽keyword of聽your product. Now if聽you look at聽Amazon right now. Sometimes when you start products, not all the聽products are just products that you search for, some of聽them were paid for. And that鈥檚 when you鈥檒l get the聽exposure on聽page one 辞谤听page two from Amazon directly. That way you鈥檙e going to聽get some customers to聽buy your product and聽then if聽they like your product, then they might start leaving your views. You get to聽do聽a聽little bit of聽everything to聽try to聽get your products at聽the聽top, it鈥檚 not just one mechanism.

Richard: You could see that would be聽a聽good way to聽probably prime the聽pump. Like you started doing a聽little bit of聽PPC. You had a聽friend 辞谤听family review. Now you can maybe cut back a聽little. I聽mean who knows you have to聽check it聽out individually like you said all the聽algorithms are different f辞谤听each category.

Jesse: Guys, I聽got a聽question on聽and聽it鈥檚 probably personal to聽me. If聽so. If聽you sold the聽average customer it聽sells 100聽items, the聽same skew on聽Amazon. How many reviews should they expect out of聽100? What percentage of聽people should leave a聽review?

Henson: That鈥檚 a聽really good question and聽a聽lot of聽people ask us聽and聽based on聽some of聽the聽research that we鈥檝e seen in聽the聽last few years. Usually, it鈥檚 somewhere around 2聽percent. If聽you鈥檙e lucky, you get 2聽percent, so聽2聽out of聽100聽orders, people are going to聽leave you a聽review.

Jesse: And that鈥檚 2聽out of聽100聽if聽you basically do聽nothing.

Henson: If聽you do聽nothing, yes.

Richard: And that鈥檚 two out of聽a聽hundred, and聽it聽could be聽negative. It聽doesn鈥檛 have to聽be. That鈥檚 I鈥檓 sure including both positive and聽negative.

Henson: It鈥檚 actually worse because people are more inclined to聽leave negative reviews than positive because that鈥檚 what kind of聽drives people to聽leave reviews is聽they had a聽negative experience. So聽that鈥檚 why it聽is聽really important to聽have these follow up聽emails that go聽out to聽your customers as聽soon as聽your order goes out to聽try to聽prevent those negative reviews. And if聽you have a聽good sequence, go聽after the聽product鈥檚 been delivered. It鈥檚 going to聽get more reviews and聽we鈥檝e seen customers go聽from 2聽percent to聽8聽to聽10聽percent. If聽you can get to聽*8聽to聽10聽percent, you鈥檙e doing really really well. And the聽more positive reviews you get, it鈥檚 going to聽squash those negative reviews down. And once you get to聽like 100聽辞谤听200聽reviews, those negative reviews are going to聽have left some weight. So聽the聽idea is聽to聽try to聽get as聽many positive reviews as聽you can.

Richard: Yeah. I聽could see how this an聽automated way of聽doing it聽could really be聽helpful because it鈥檚 this customer journey and聽they just bought something and聽they鈥檙e excited so聽let鈥檚 forget the聽supplement f辞谤听a聽second because we聽obviously would wait on聽that I聽totally understand why you would want to聽wait on聽something that鈥檚 probably not going to聽feel the聽results f辞谤听30聽days 辞谤听something. But almost every other thing the聽faster you could get something out to聽them maybe even before. Is聽there anything that you guys shoot out that 聭Hey, thanks f辞谤听buying it.聮 It鈥檚 not really asking f辞谤听a聽review yet because you know it鈥檚 not there yet just to聽kind of聽keep them excited and聽keep them excited with your brand.

Henson: Rich, that varies on聽the聽seller. So聽you know the聽seller can set up聽the聽different templates and聽when they want to聽send them out. So聽we聽have kind of聽rules of聽thumb to聽follow but that鈥檚 up聽to聽them. Because like you said each product is聽different. I聽like to聽actually use exercise equipment as聽a聽good example instead of聽supplements. So聽it聽may be聽one of聽those things that you sell a聽piece of聽exercise equipment. They might use it聽within the聽first couple of聽days, it聽may take a聽week before they use it聽and聽they鈥檒l start using it. They鈥檙e going to聽know pretty quickly whether they like it聽辞谤听not as聽soon as聽they start using it. But it聽may take them a聽few days of聽using it聽to聽really get a聽true kind of聽feel f辞谤听it. So聽maybe the聽first day: 聭Oh, my聽arms are burning from using this thing.聮 But their arms were going to聽burn no聽matter what they used and聽then like three 辞谤听four days after that wore off and聽they鈥檙e like 聭Oh, this is聽a聽piece of聽equipment, the聽exercise with it聽is聽really good.聮 You got to聽understand your space and聽what you鈥檙e selling and聽to聽understand where is聽that kind of聽sweet spot to聽hit them up. And obviously, anything that tells them that 聭Thank you f辞谤听placing an聽order.聮 Or聽聭Here鈥檚 the聽next email.聮 A聽day later 聭We鈥檝e shipped your order. Thanks again f辞谤听placing the聽order.聮 Just keep them in聽the聽process. You鈥檙e in聽constant contact with them to聽say 聭Hey, I鈥檓 here. We鈥檙e here to聽help you. Thanks f辞谤听ordering. Here it鈥檚 on聽the聽way. I聽noticed you got it. If聽you don鈥檛 like it聽go聽ahead and聽send it聽back.聮 Or聽聭I鈥檓 sorry if聽you had an聽issue, let me聽know聮. That鈥檚 what I聽meant to聽say.

Richard: It聽was almost as聽if聽we聽talked about this and聽we聽did it. Do聽you get some sort of聽trigger in聽FeedbackWhiz that they鈥檝e been delivered?

Henson: Yeah, we聽do. The way that all these third-party software has worked with Amazon is聽they get data from the聽API from Amazon which they send the聽information like the聽buyer鈥檚 information when a聽dealer has been shipped, what is聽going to聽be聽delivered, tracking numbers, names, their phone number 辞谤听their address. So聽we聽have all that data and聽what we聽do聽is聽we聽take that data and聽help you set up聽triggers, so聽you can set up聽a聽trigger right when the聽product鈥檚 been shipped and聽then the聽trigger when it鈥檚 been delivered. You can even have one go聽out if聽it鈥檚 been returned. Let鈥檚 say they left the聽positive feedback and聽they didn鈥檛 give you a聽product review, then maybe those are the聽guys you want to聽ask f辞谤听a聽review because they really left you a聽positive. So聽there鈥檚 seller feedback and聽there are product reviews f辞谤听the聽people that are selling at聽Amazon. It鈥檚 another way f辞谤听the聽buyer to聽review the聽feedback based on聽the聽experience, on聽the聽package, when it聽comes to聽your door, did it聽come on聽time? Was it聽packaged well? So聽it鈥檚 a聽different mechanism. But you can set up聽different triggers like that to聽send out. One thing Amazon is聽trying to聽kind of聽cut down on聽recently is聽trying to聽get sellers not to聽send out too many emails because you know people do聽get annoyed. A聽lot of聽sellers don鈥檛 realize, they want to聽get as聽many reviews. They try to聽spam these buyers with multiple emails 辞谤听different messages and聽a聽lot of聽buyers just get annoyed and聽opt out. So聽the聽idea is聽to聽try to聽not send too many emails 辞谤听maybe sending three e-mails is聽the聽maximum you want to聽send. Maybe one when it聽ships and聽then one after it鈥檚 been delivered, asking them f辞谤听review. There may be聽one reminder after a聽few weeks. Something like that and聽if聽they don鈥檛 respond to聽that, the聽best thing might be聽just to聽move on聽and聽then hopefully you can get another buyer to聽leave a聽review instead.

Richard: Can you just communicate with them without asking f辞谤听a聽review? Let鈥檚 say six months down the聽road: 聭Hey how鈥檚 everything been with your new workout equipment?聮

Henson: Absolutely. You can always communicate with them anytime you want.

Jesse: That鈥檚 good. And I聽think part of聽that is, of聽course, you want to聽ask f辞谤听a聽review hoping that it鈥檚 positive even though you can鈥檛 use that word. But I聽think part of聽the聽idea might be聽if聽somebody has an聽issue before they leave a聽one-star review you want to聽know about it. I聽mean that鈥檚 got to聽be聽part of聽that, the聽trick here.

Henson: Exactly. That鈥檚 when the聽first email goes out and聽we聽usually like to聽do聽is聽send them some information about the聽product. Let鈥檚 say Rob uses the聽treadmill. 聭This is聽how you assemble the聽treadmill. And these are five tips on聽how to聽keep your treadmill running f辞谤听years and聽years.聮 And then that鈥檚 something that they want to聽read about. And then after they read about it聽then you have a聽link that says 聭Hey, once you get your product if聽there鈥檚 anything wrong with the聽packaging, 辞谤听your product is聽damaged. Please, contact us聽before taking action.聮

Rob: So聽just keep it聽simple. Just 聭Please, contact us聮, just have a聽link there so聽they know in聽the聽back of聽their mind 聭If something happens, I聽know how to聽communicate with the聽seller.聮

Jesse: That鈥檚 got to聽prevent somebody from 聭This this was broken. I鈥檓 going to聽leave a聽one star聮. Well, maybe it聽got broken during shipping and聽that one star really wasn鈥檛 deserved by聽the聽company, by聽you, so聽you can send a聽replacement. Do聽whatever you can to聽avoid that one-star review.

Henson: Yeah exactly. Yeah.

Richard: That鈥檚 a聽great point because I聽put some years on聽this planet and聽I聽can tell you in聽my聽experience I鈥檝e almost had a聽better relationship with businesses where something went awry not necessarily catastrophe but something went awry and聽they fixed it. And then I聽was able to聽kind of聽look at聽them like 聭Oh, they back their products up, they listen to聽me, they care about what鈥檚 what I鈥檓 going through.聮 And I聽sometimes have a聽better relationship with someone that I聽had an聽issue with and聽then they fixed that issue, then just never having an聽issue because you have no聽attachment you know. That鈥檚 a聽that鈥檚 a聽good point.

Rob: So聽Rich, what you were just talking about I聽mean we聽talked about earlier. We聽keep saying building a聽brand. What you just described some people might say: 聭Well, that鈥檚 just good customer service.聮 Well, that鈥檚 actually building a聽brand. Good customer service is聽building a聽brand and聽having somebody having a聽positive experience with your product. That鈥檚 part of聽the聽brand. So聽if聽anybody was stumped on聽what we聽kind of聽meant by聽building a聽brand. Rich just described part of聽the聽process right there of聽building a聽brand.

Jesse: So聽sell good products, don鈥檛 sell a聽bunch of聽crap, deliver it, answer when people have a聽problem. These are just basic 101.

Richard: This sounds just like old school.

Henson: Yeah, we聽are old.

Richard: But automated.

Henson: Yeah, automated, just make it聽easier. The one thing I聽think I聽always remember running my聽e-commerce business was as聽a聽store owner. I聽just want to聽concentrate on聽making money, finding products, making money. So聽any聽time I聽could find a聽tool 辞谤听a聽service that could turn around and聽automate everything that I聽do, not everything, but certain parts of聽my聽business that allowed me聽to聽just go聽back on聽concentrating, making money and聽finding products to聽make money with. Man, that was a聽winner to聽me.

Jesse: Yeah, makes perfect sense and聽the聽reason I聽was asking about the聽percentages I鈥檝e probably sold 100聽products on聽Amazon and聽if聽I聽don鈥檛 include somebody that wrote reviews sitting next to聽me, I聽got one other review.

Richard: Should I聽have muted my聽Alexa before we聽start?

Jesse: Had I聽known about you guys earlier I聽set up聽this automation and聽instead of聽getting one review, maybe I鈥檓 getting eight reviews. On聽that product and聽I鈥檇 be聽selling more and聽I鈥檇 be聽sitting on聽the聽hammock on聽the聽beach.

Rob: Sounds like we聽need to聽get Jesse on聽our free 30-day trial here.

Jesse: I聽like it. Where would I聽go聽f辞谤听this free trial, Robbie?

Richard: Yeah, perfect time.

Rob: You could go聽to聽FeedbackWhiz.com. That鈥檚 F-E-E-D-B-A-C-K-W-H-I-Z. That was you got that right.

Richard: Yep, and聽we聽will definitely create the聽show. That鈥檚 awesome.

Rob: We鈥檒l add it聽to聽the聽show, let鈥檚 have a聽link!

Jesse: We聽got it. Got it. Awesome. So聽Robbie Henson great having you on聽the聽show. Learning about Amazon secrets here and聽learning about how we聽can automate our process f辞谤听feedbacks. Richard, what do聽you think any聽last thoughts here?

Richard: I鈥檓 just ready to聽get on聽there and聽start playing with it. I聽love the聽sound of聽this. Yes. I聽mean I聽love the聽idea of聽being able to聽add gifts and聽all these other things. I聽mean, this is聽the聽thing you do聽to聽keep it聽playful and聽lively and聽you know something that stands out. I鈥檓 in.

Jesse: Yeah, awesome two guys. Pleasure having you on聽the聽show. Hope we聽can learn more from you in聽the聽future.

Rob and聽Hensen: Thanks guys. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it.

Richard: Have a聽great weekend.
