Automated marketing is聽the聽main topic where they discuss how to聽launch dynamic remarketing on聽Facebook and聽Google Shopping campaigns. Jesse: Richard, Happy New Year!
Richard: Happy New Year to聽you! Had a聽good one?
Jesse: I聽did. Sleeping by聽probably 10:30聽or聽so.
Richard: You watched the聽New York ball drop instead of聽San Diego ball drop.
Jesse: That鈥檚 the聽New Year鈥檚 for聽me. New York ball drop. The kids weren鈥檛 even awake. It鈥檚 all good. But with the聽New Year comes time to聽reflect and聽plan for聽a聽new year. And I鈥檝e been hearing all, I聽mean, I鈥檓 obviously a聽podcast junkie, we聽make podcasts. Everybody else is聽done their 2019聽predictions for聽the聽year. I聽want to聽make sure we聽got our couple of聽predictions out there, put them onto tape so聽we聽can look back a聽year from now on. See if聽we聽can pat ourselves in聽the聽back or聽be聽like 聯Man, totally missed that one.聰
Richard: We聽going for聽the聽for聽sure win. Here we聽go聽in聽for聽the聽most tough one, the聽one that no聽one else was talking about, a聽little bit of聽both.
Jesse: We聽get there for聽sure win in聽there. Video will become more important. We聽got a聽guaranteed win on聽the聽board. All right, OK, Rich, let鈥檚 get risky.
Richard: I聽say conversational commerce in聽many forms, let鈥檚 narrow it聽down to聽get some more specific, will become more and聽more relevant. Not just a聽thing you heard about, what I聽mean by聽that is聽either bots, automation via bots in聽messengers, whatever, and聽or, more specifically, voice. Voice commerce will become a聽thing.
Jesse: You got bots and聽voice there.
Richard: Conversational commerce, basically. We鈥檝e got into this entire time and聽I聽don鈥檛 want to聽go聽too deep, like 聯we鈥檙e going to聽see more Instagram or聽Facebook or聽Google, we鈥檙e going to聽see more videos.聰 We聽know all that. We鈥檝e heard everyone talk about these other predictions. We聽want to聽go聽into a聽little more specific. Two years in聽a聽row, Alexa and聽Google Home have been the聽number one sellers at聽Christmas. So聽now I聽think there are enough devices in聽the聽home. We鈥檙e going to聽go聽through a聽few parlor tricks for聽the聽rest of聽the聽year. You and聽I聽own these already, we鈥檙e already junkies for聽them, but we聽also know they鈥檙e mostly parlor tricks like 聯Put the聽timer on聰.
Jesse: Timers and聽music for聽now.
Richard: Alexa gets to聽be聽the聽bad guy to聽the聽kids when the聽timer鈥檚 done instead of聽us. But yeah, more specifically, it聽will be聽a聽thing. I聽think three鈥
Jesse: Percentage of聽
Richard:Oh shoot, if聽you let me聽throw in聽bots too鈥
Jesse: Yeah!
Richard: Oh聽my聽gosh, if聽you let me聽throw in聽bots. I聽could say and聽especially if聽it鈥檚 not just America, it鈥檚 crazy numbers. I聽think you could end up聽being 25%. But if聽you let me聽throw in聽bots.
Jesse: We鈥檒l write that down.
Richard: They鈥檙e buying cars in聽China, it鈥檚 really high. If聽just in聽the聽world of聽voice alone like 聯Alexa, buy my聽soap聰, somewhere between 2聽and聽3聽%.聽I聽still think I鈥檓 guessing high but even if聽it鈥檚 a聽half a聽percent right now, that would be聽a聽lot of聽percentages higher.
Jesse: I聽do聽think you鈥檙e high on聽that one (laughing.)
Richard: Not literally (laughing.)
Jesse: Pretty sure not high, but I聽think you鈥檙e high in聽your predictions. But I聽love it. I聽love voice commerce, I聽think that鈥檚 good for聽people to聽be聽thinking about like, 聯How do聽you integrate into that world聰? It聽doesn鈥檛 mean pull over your car right now and聽write down voice commerce. That鈥檚 not what we鈥檙e saying, but think about it. All right, so聽I聽can be聽quite as聽bold with that. But I鈥檓 going to聽say my聽prediction is聽that Instagram will be聽the聽number one social media of聽2019. 袨bviously it鈥檚 already kind of聽getting there but I聽think that everybody has this negative feeling about Facebook. Whether it鈥檚 their continued privacy problems or聽the聽hangover of聽the聽election of聽2016聽or聽just in聽general people are negative on聽Facebook. But they totally love this totally different company called Instagram which is聽owned by聽the聽exact same company Facebook.
Richard: It鈥檚 amazing, isn鈥檛 it? What makes you realize: 聯Should I聽delete Facebook? Should I聽have more?聰
Jesse: 聯I聽deleted Facebook, and聽I鈥檓 using just Instagram now聰. Really, you鈥檙e still using Facebook. And Facebook is聽going to聽put all their attention, all the聽power of聽their advertising and聽targeting in聽Instagram, but I聽think that鈥檚 why the聽founders left in聽a聽few months ago as聽their Facebook execs just kept pushing, pushing, pushing more. I聽wanted more the聽real estate on聽Instagram cuz that鈥檚 where the聽group is聽coming from but for聽marketers and聽for聽
Richard: It聽won鈥檛 even take the聽whole month to聽do聽this.
Jesse: You can do聽this today. This is聽a聽
Richard: Yeah, they could literally other than having your product photos in聽the聽store, and聽your descriptions, and聽your prices, other than the聽basic store set up. Maybe Google Analytics then, and聽then these two.
Jesse: This is聽the聽first month things. This is聽not like 聯when you finally made it聽you should do聽it聰, this is聽not like a聽fancy bell later on. This is聽blocking and聽tackling. These are the聽evergreen marketing strategies that everybody should have. Every
Richard: We聽won鈥檛 go聽super deep on聽it. But let鈥檚 just say this one thing. When you spend money on聽Google or聽Facebook, do聽they help you sell things? Yes. Yes, bottom line. You may not totally understand it聽yet. You might not totally get why we鈥檙e saying this but these guys aren鈥檛 in聽a聽business to聽just spin our money and聽not send us聽customers back.
Jesse: They鈥檙e not ripping you off, this is聽not a聽scam. They take your money and聽they send you customers back. That鈥檚 their whole business model. So, these are the聽best options. I聽would say there鈥檚 a聽lot of聽things you can do. What to聽start with Google Shopping first? There鈥檙e a聽lot of聽things. I鈥檝e done all sorts of聽text ads for聽10聽years, but Google shopping for聽
Richard: And to聽be聽clear. It鈥檚 the聽picture of聽the聽product, the聽title that you鈥檝e already done the聽work for.
Jesse: Correct.
Richard: We鈥檙e going to聽let you know in聽a聽few minutes how to聽do聽this. It鈥檚 literally like three steps. I聽think it聽was and聽that鈥檚 it聽like your stores already set up. This is聽30聽minutes and聽that鈥檚 only cuz鈥
Jesse: That鈥檚 probably putting your credit card and聽your address.
Richard: The whole thing from start to聽finish.
Jesse: I聽think about this too. It聽was advanced level feature a聽couple years ago, but now it鈥檚 not, it聽is聽for聽newbies as聽well. If聽you were like 聯I聽launch this store and聽do聽my聽sales, where鈥檚 my聽traffic聰? Well, you probably don鈥檛 have any聽traffic cuz it鈥檚 not like Google just send people, just send traffic to聽your store. You have to聽get the聽traffic to聽it.
Richard: We聽won鈥檛 go聽deep on聽this but you鈥檙e either spending money because it鈥檚 taking you a聽lot of聽time to聽go聽to聽the聽organic route, you create a聽podcast, you could you do聽whatever, all these little things to聽make sure they come back to聽you but that still takes time. Someone is聽going to聽sit there, they鈥檙e going to聽do聽it, they are going to聽put it聽all together, or聽you pay money. The advertising and聽the聽people who are looking for聽that thing that comes back to聽one another. Anyway, you鈥檙e going to聽be聽spending money, the聽difference between, why we鈥檙e talking about this specifically is聽that you can鈥檛 just turn on聽the聽spicket of聽SEO. You can鈥檛 just turn on聽the聽spicket, but you can turn on聽the聽picket of聽I聽pay $5.73聽and聽they send me聽a聽customer, whatever, I聽made up聽a聽number there obviously.
Jesse: The beauty is聽that you can do聽this right away. So聽if聽you have a聽product, I聽happen to聽be聽holding a聽water bottle right now. It鈥檚 insulated wood covered water bottle, is聽that how he聽described it? I聽don鈥檛 know, but if聽I聽had a聽store selling wood covered insulated water bottles and聽you Google that right now that would be聽the聽picture of聽this product that would show up. It鈥檚 pretty amazing. It聽would take a聽lot of聽time and聽other ways but maybe that wasn鈥檛 the聽best example of聽a聽product but people can take that in聽right now and聽you can pay to聽have your product displayed and聽it鈥檚 on聽the聽top of聽Google with the聽price right there. If聽they don鈥檛 like it, then they think the聽price is聽too high. They鈥檙e probably not going to聽click on聽it. Just a聽very quick test of聽your store, is聽this going to聽work or聽not? And it鈥檚 really good for聽new people. To聽me, that should be聽a聽basic strategy for聽getting that first amount of聽traffic to聽your site. Definitely something to聽do. If聽you do聽want to聽do聽this right now, just let me聽tell you where I聽go聽here. So聽we鈥檙e inside of聽黑料门, go聽the聽All Sales channel on聽the聽left, go聽to聽Google Shopping. Depending on聽when you listen to聽this, there鈥檚 going to聽be聽some sort of聽promotion. As聽your learning, you鈥檙e getting some free money from Google on聽that. Definitely, want to聽encourage people, if聽you鈥檙e thinking you just need some traffic to聽your store, to聽see if聽it鈥檚 going to聽work or聽not. That鈥檚 the聽way this is聽done.
Richard: I聽love free money.
Jesse: That鈥檚 a聽basic strategy. You should put this in聽place. Watch the聽numbers, etc. The second step you want to聽talk about is聽ok, you got some traffic to聽your store. How do聽you close the聽deal? How do聽you get people coming back? So聽the聽second strategy is聽a聽bit of聽a聽mouthful but it鈥檚 dynamic product remarketing. You knew this both with Google and聽with Facebook, we鈥檙e going to聽focus a聽little bit more on聽Facebook with this. You can cover the聽two big traffic networks, but kind of聽backing up聽a聽little bit on聽Facebook marketing. If聽you鈥檝e read about it聽or聽heard a聽podcast and聽things, you might be聽thinking 聯Hey, Facebook advertise, it鈥檚 kind of聽hard.聰 And it聽is, there鈥檚 a聽bunch of聽different options. You have boosted posts. You have to聽trade images, videos, carousels, instant experiences, Instagram stories messenger. Targeting options look like all this stuff that you鈥檙e supposed to聽know for聽Facebook marketing. If聽you鈥檙e going to聽be聽a聽working agency to聽do聽Facebook marketing, you have to聽know all that stuff. For now, forget about all of聽that. You don鈥檛 have to聽know those terms, may be聽an聽
Richard: And it鈥檚 not because they鈥檙e listening to聽your phone. It鈥檚 because you went to聽the聽site, and聽they were pixeled.
Jesse: People a聽few years ago: 聯It鈥檚 creepy, they鈥檙e on聽my聽phone聰. No, this is聽very simple technology, it鈥檚 a聽pixel. I聽think people are used to聽it聽now. Everybody鈥檚 seen and聽they know, when you visit a聽product, it鈥檚 likely you can be聽targeted with later and聽they think it鈥檚 not like you had this giant agency behind you doing this. No, it鈥檚 actually very simple to聽do.
Richard: You are going to聽try to聽buy this, right, but with the聽reason why this retargeting is聽so聽useful is聽most people that go聽to聽your site聽鈥 not trying to聽sound disheartening聽鈥 but most people aren鈥檛 going to聽buy, correct. Like what is聽it, the聽1聽to聽2%聽maybe?
Jesse: 1听迟辞听3%听颈蝉听苍辞谤尘补濒.
Richard: When there will be聽conversational commerce. Where I鈥檓 going with that is聽we鈥檝e all heard it聽whether it聽was our old sales manager grandfather. Whoever, it鈥檚 5聽to聽10聽touch points. So聽what did that mean back in聽the聽day? You had to聽make a聽cold call, you had to聽send a聽snail mail, you had to聽do聽all these different things. They see it聽on聽a聽billboard, they see it, and聽eventually, they鈥檇 see it聽enough times, they come buy it. But this is聽a聽way you don鈥檛 have to聽do聽all those things. This is聽what I聽love about these two tactics. It鈥檚 yeah, I鈥檓 going to聽have to聽do聽something. I鈥檓 going to聽go聽click a聽couple of聽buttons. I鈥檓 going to聽spend half an聽hour to聽an聽hour to聽do聽these two things and聽I鈥檓 going to聽spend a聽little bit of聽money, but they鈥檙e going to聽send me聽traffic cuz their business more or聽less, both their models are advertising and聽here鈥檚 something that聽鈥 again I鈥檓 not trying to聽make people seem like that鈥檚 all bad. But it鈥檚 free and聽good news or聽bad news. If聽something is聽free, you鈥檙e probably the聽commodity.
Jesse: What you mean is聽using Google is聽free.
Richard: Exactly. I聽bet you, no聽questions asked if聽all of聽a聽sudden people say 聯I鈥檒l pay $50聽a聽year to聽use Facebook聰 and聽never have to聽ask that be聽all over it. Cuz I聽think they only average like $34. I聽won鈥檛 go聽deep in聽that but I聽think the聽average I聽saw a聽number like $34聽per user, that鈥檚 amazing. They鈥檙e getting that ads cuz they鈥檙e sending people business. They鈥檙e sending people business. So, take advantage of聽what everyone else is聽doing to聽you and聽do聽the聽same thing.
Jesse: You鈥檙e just tapping into鈥 these are two giant companies. They run the聽advertising world and聽what we聽talked about here was not just figured out how to聽go聽to聽Facebook and聽figure it聽out. These are like the聽gems of聽both of聽their advertising models. Right? Like this is聽the聽ones that automatically work and聽you don鈥檛 have to聽do聽the聽work. You don鈥檛 have to聽create an聽ad, you already took a聽picture of聽your product and聽put it聽in聽your 黑料门 catalog. Right? So聽we鈥檙e just taking that same data and聽blasting these photos. Blasting photos bad word, but like we鈥檙e showing these photos to聽targeted people that looked at聽them, had some sort of聽interest and聽maybe didn鈥檛 buy it聽right then, but maybe later on, maybe a聽week later there is聽a聽buying mood. I聽think they鈥檙e better ads to聽me聽personally than other random ads. You know, I鈥檓 like, okay I聽was looking at鈥
Richard: At聽least you could know it鈥檚 the聽ad. One way I鈥檝e been feeling about these days either do聽creative stuff that鈥檚 helpful for聽your clients or聽maybe an聽ad. Don鈥檛 try to聽like try to聽make it聽be聽both, this kind of聽weird.
Jesse: Or聽do聽creative stuff, get people to聽your site and聽now they鈥檙e pixeled and聽they鈥檒l be聽remarketed, right? So聽this is聽why you want to聽do聽this. I聽know we聽talked about this earlier like all the聽other things you can do, we聽talked about another podcast, you just know, you want to聽get people to聽your site, but if聽you don鈥檛 have remarketing set up, you鈥檙e going to聽pay to聽get people to聽your site and聽then you鈥檙e not taking advantage of聽the聽fact that maybe they didn鈥檛 buy right then. These are two good ways, one brings new people to聽your site. The second one brings those same people back to聽your site to聽buy and聽these are evergreen strategies. Both things. You should be聽doing throughout the聽year. Have Facebook and聽Google, definitely get out there and聽take advantage of聽these.
Richard: It鈥檚 just as聽easy to聽set up. So聽go聽into the聽黑料门 control panel.
Jesse: This is聽probably going to聽change in聽a聽couple months. If聽you鈥檙e hearing this later on聽in聽2019, we鈥檙e going to聽elevate this cuz we聽believe so聽strongly in聽it. But right now you go聽to聽the聽app section, the聽app market, you look for聽the聽app called Facebook and聽Google Retargeting, then follow the聽process. They鈥檙e going to聽be聽linking up聽some catalogs and聽there鈥檚 a聽Facebook pixel that needs to聽be聽in聽there, that鈥檚 kind of聽the聽magic secret sauce for聽Facebook.
Richard: But again, you鈥檙e not running any聽code. You鈥檙e not doing anything.
Jesse: Don鈥檛 be聽scared by聽that. But you need to聽follow the聽process there. It鈥檚 gonna take a聽couple minutes, but we聽made this very simple because we聽want to聽help people out and聽we聽know this is聽one of聽the聽best ways to聽help people out, get their store going. So聽that鈥檚 how you do聽it. These are two strategies for聽2019. This is聽the聽workout, right? Like you didn鈥檛 get out in聽a聽jog. This is聽what we聽need to聽be聽doing for聽2019. Our first request for聽you, we聽don鈥檛 really make many requests on聽this podcast.
Richard: We聽gave you two tips. We鈥檙e going to聽have two request now.
Jesse: The first one is聽just please do聽both because we聽believe it聽will make you successful. The second one. We聽would like to聽pay for聽2019. Please if聽you鈥檙e listening to聽this, go聽subscribe via your favorite podcast player. We鈥檙e on聽iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Play, SoundCloud. We聽pretty much have all the聽podcast players. If聽you listen to聽this on聽the聽website, please go聽to聽your whatever favorite podcast player because we聽want to聽be聽able to聽be聽in聽touch with you regularly and聽help you out, and聽that helps us聽know that we鈥檙e doing the聽right thing here right now.
Richard: It鈥檚 also good to聽get feedback. We鈥檇 love
Jesse: Please, subscribe but we聽definitely want to聽get your feedback. If聽you think it鈥檚 a聽
Richard: We聽just want to聽help, right? It鈥檚 partially why you started at聽first, please go聽do聽this. We鈥檝e been horrible at聽asking in聽return, but we聽just figured every time someone subscribes, rates, gives reviews, we聽get more info on聽what you like, what you would like us聽to聽cover more, all that. We聽just wanna keep in聽touch with you. We聽want you to聽be聽successful.
Jesse: All right guys, it聽gets pretty good closing thought there. 2019聽blocking and聽tackling it聽out there and聽get these marking things going and聽make 2019聽a聽year.
Richard: Sounds good. See you later Jesse.
Jesse: Happy New Year!
